Hundreds of semi trucks still stuck on I-20 in Louisiana amid winter weather

The Louisiana State Police (LSP) is working to clear stalled vehicles and restore traffic flow after stalled commercial vehicles and icy conditions left a large number of truckers stranded for hours on I-20 in the northern part of the state.

On the morning on Tuesday, January 27, LSP announced that troopers are working with the Louisiana National Guard, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, and other agencies to check on stranded drivers, deliver fuel and water, and help reopen I-20 to traffic.

The I-20 traffic backlog traces back to at least Monday when LSP said that “numerous commercial motor vehicles became stalled in the travel lanes, resulting in traffic coming to a standstill in several areas.”

As part of the effort, the National Guard is using heavy-duty wreckers and other vehicles to assist stalled commercial vehicles along the interstate to help get traffic moving again.

The Shreveport Times reports that some drivers say they have been stuck on I-20 since the afternoon of January 26.

Drivers are asked to avoid I-20 in northern Louisiana until further notice as crews and drivers continue to battle black ice and other winter weather conditions.

This is a developing story.
