Hunt is on for mystery trucker who was the only one brave enough to physically stop slow-moving wrong-way motorist

Witnesses in Illinois are looking to identify a truck driver who singlehandedly stopped a wrong-way motorist by hopping out of his rig and grabbing the steering wheel.

The incident happened on I-70 eastbound near State Route 4 on Saturday, August 15th in Madison County, Illinois.

According to Fox2Now, a disoriented motorist was able to travel three miles in the wrong direction on I-70 before the truck driver stopped them. Witnesses Cammi and Greg Pierce say they weren’t sure what to do, but knew something had to happen or people could die.

“My husband started honking. I started waving my hands to try and get his attention,” Cammi Pierce said. “He was slumped over by his steering wheel. You can tell he was having some kind of medical problems or something,” Greg added.

Just as the couple was considering blocking the wrong-way motorist’s path with their own vehicle, a truck driver realized what was going on and decided to take matters into his own hands.

The trucker stopped his big blue rig in the lanes of traffic and ran over to the van, which was moving slowly and driving partially on the grassy shoulder by the time he got to it. The tucker then yanked open the driver door of the van and grabbed the steering wheel before eventually stopping the vehicle.

Cammi captured the driver’s efforts on video while Greg ran over to help get the van to come to a stop. Greg says that, by the time the initial chaos was over, he went to look for the trucker and he was already gone.

“I look around to thank the truck driver, and he was gone,” Greg said.

Now, the couple has shared the video to social media in hopes of finding the truck driver so he can be better recognized for his quick thinking.

“Our intention is literally just to have the social media community help us find this driver so we can thank him too,” Cammi Pierce said.

“It was just really impressive that he had so much human compassion to jump out of his semi and risk his own life and ran that van down and saved that man from getting killed and possibly several others,” he said.
