I-26 rest area to close for one year for construction, including truck parking upgrades

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) announced a yearlong closure of a rest area along I-26 for construction.

Starting on Friday, September 11, 2026, the I-26 eastbound rest area near mile marker 204 in Charleston County, South Carolina, will close for construction.

During the closure, crews will reconstruct the facility and “provide site improvements that will significantly increase both car and truck parking availability.”

The rest area closure will last approximately one year.

From now until the September 11 closure date, the rest area will only be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to allow for ongoing work.
