The Illinois Tollway released a 15-year capital plan that includes toll increases for both passenger and commercial vehicle drivers.
On June 18, the Illinois Tollway released a proposal for Driving Connections, a 15‑year, $26.5 billion plan to improve tollways between 2027 and 2042.
In order to fund improvements to the tollway systems, officials proposed toll hikes for passenger and commercial vehicles, effective January 1, 2027.
The proposed increase for commercial vehicle toll rates will be approximately 30% for I-PASS users. After the increase, commercial vehicle operators would pay about $0.90 per mile on average.
For passenger vehicles, the rate increase will be roughly 45 cents per toll for I-PASS users.
The Illinois Tollway will hold public meetings in the 12 counties served by the Tollway to allow customers and others the opportunity to comment and provide feedback on the toll increases and other aspects of the plan.
“The Illinois Tollway is more than just roadways – it’s a vital lifeline that connects people to the jobs, goods, healthcare, housing and opportunities they need to thrive,” Executive Director Cassaundra Rouse said. “Driving Connections reinforces that mission by putting people first and ensuring our customers – and our state – are positioned for long‑term success.”
