Indiana trooper arrests speeding semi truck driver after finding suspected burnt and packaged marijuana in cab
An Indiana trooper arrested a semi truck driver on multiple drug-related charges after initiating a traffic stop for speeding and unsafe lane changes.
Around 9:30 p.m. on July 28, 2026, an Indiana State Police (ISP) trooper initiated a traffic stop on a commercial semi truck on I-69 in DeKalb County, south of Auburn.
ISP said that the traffic stop was initiated after the trooper noticed the truck “speeding and making unsafe lane movements. The vehicle drifted into the other lane and changed lanes without signaling, creating a hazard for other drivers.”
During the traffic stop, the trooper made contact with Texas-based truck driver Brendan Lewis, 26.
A “lawful search” of the cab uncovered “suspected burnt marijuana and a large quantity of packaged marijuana inside the cab.”
ISP arrested Lewis on charges including:
- Operating While Intoxicated – Endangerment: Class A Misdemeanor
- Possession of Controlled Substance: Class B Misdemeanor
- Operating While Intoxicated: Class C Misdemeanor
- Operating with Controlled Substance in Body: Class C Misdemeanor
“The Indiana State Police emphasize that no matter how minor individuals may believe marijuana possession or use to be, it is always illegal to drive while intoxicated. This incident is especially alarming considering the driver was operating a semi tractor‑trailer — a vehicle capable of causing catastrophic damage in the event of a crash,” ISP’s Fort Wayne Post said in a news release.
