An Indiana State Police (ISP) trooper called out a motorist for camping in the left lane of a busy interstate for miles.
On June 10, 2026, ISP Sgt. Stephen Wheeles performed a traffic stop on a passenger vehicle along southbound I-65 in Bartholomew County, Indiana.
Sgt. Wheeles said that the vehicle “was traveling below the speed limit and remained in the left lane for miles, not allowing other vehicles to pass on the left. Multiple vehicles were lined up behind the car, unable to overtake.”
In addition to the left lane camping, Sgt. Wheeles also found an unrestrained passenger and child in the vehicle.
“Citations were issued,” he said.
ISP used the incident to remind drivers that it’s not a good idea to block traffic by driving slowly in the left lane:
“Reminder: You must at least travel the speed limit in the left lane of a multi-lane highway AND you must move back to the right lane if there are vehicles behind you that are waiting to pass. This is meant to keep traffic flowing and to reduce crashes.“
