Iowa 80 Truckstop owner and CAT Scale President passes away at 64

The owner of the popular Iowa 80 Truckstop in Walcott, Iowa, passed away last week.

On July 16, 2026, William I. Moon, III, passed away suddenly at the age of 64, according to an online obituary.

Moon was the President of the Iowa 80 Group, which owns and operates the Iowa 80 Truckstop. He was also President of the CAT Scale Company.

Moon was born on August 10, 1961, in Kansas City, Missouri, and moved to Walcott, Iowa, at the age of four when his parents took over the Iowa 80 Truckstop.

“Will developed his love of Iowa 80 by following his dad around when he was just a little kid, pulling weeds, mowing grass, and later working on the fuel islands and in the tire shop all through college to save up to buy a used pickup truck,” his obituary states.

Moon was instrumental in building the legacy of the Iowa 80 Truckstop, which has been open 24/7 for more than 60 years.

“Will Moon was a noble man. A man who gave much of his time, talent and treasure to all and asked for very little. With a towering stature came a quiet authority that filled any room he was in. He made haste slowly in decisions. He loved others through acts of service and sage wisdom,” Moon’s obituary reads.

In lieu of flowers, Moon’s family suggests donations to the Iowa 80 Trucking Museum.
