Iowa troopers find ‘eye-opening’ equipment violations during commercial vehicle inspections

Iowa troopers are asking truckers to be proactive about repairs after spotting several severe equipment defects during recent commercial vehicle inspections.

On April 28, the Iowa State Patrol (ISP) Commercial Motor Vehicle Unit shared several photos of commercial vehicle equipment violations as a reminder to keep up with maintenance.

“A few eye-opening photos from CMV inspections around Iowa lately. While we know some issues pop up without warning, many of these have been developing for quite some time. Out-of-service violations are always cheaper and easier to fix in your own yard rather than roadside!” ISP said.

As a reminder, there will be extra attention on commercial vehicle equipment violations in the coming weeks. The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) International Roadcheck inspection and enforcement campaign will take place throughout North America from May 12, 2026, to May 14, 2026.
