Kansas sheriff shares video from Move Over crash that resulted in citation for semi truck driver

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) shared dash cam video from a recent crash involving a semi truck that resulted in major damage to a police cruiser.

The video was captured around 4:15 a.m on February 24, 2026, as a deputy was conducting a traffic stop along westbound Kellogg near Oliver in Sedgwick County, Kansas.

“While the deputy was seated inside his stationary patrol vehicle, it was struck by a semi-truck that failed to move over. The portion of the video you are seeing ends at the moment of impact because the extensive damage to the patrol vehicle disabled the in-car camera system,” SCSO said.

The deputy only suffered minor injuries.

The truck driver, a 34-year-old Springfield, Missouri, resident, was stopped at the scene and cited, according to police.

“This situation could have ended much differently. When you see flashing emergency lights on the side of the road, you are required by law to move over to the next lane if it is safe to do so. If you cannot safely change lanes, you must slow down significantly. The Move Over Law exists to protect law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, highway workers, and tow truck operators who work along our roadways every day,” SCSO said.
