‘Massive interception’: $17.7 million in meth seized from big rig hauling blackberries at Texas border crossing

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized millions of dollars worth of illegal drugs from a commercial truck hauling a shipment of berries.

The drug seizure took place March 23, 2026, at the Pharr International Bridge Cargo Facility located Pharr, Texas, according to CBP news release.

A tractor trailer traveling from traveling from Reynosa, Mexico, entered the facility with a shipment manifested as blackberries.

The vehicle was selected for a secondary inspection using nonintrusive inspection equipment.

CBP located and seized a total of 862 packages of suspected methamphetamine with a combined weight of 1,984.16 pounds hidden within the blackberries.

The estimated street value of the drugs is $17,737,200.

CBP seized the tractor trailer.

Homeland Security Investigations launched a criminal investigation into the incident.

“Our CBP officers use all available tools and technology to thwart smuggling attempts at our international crossings,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry. “This massive interception of meth illustrates our commitment to keeping our communities safe.”
