The Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) opened a new runaway truck ramp in El Paso this week.
On July 1, 2026, TXDOT opened a runaway truck ramp on Loop 375 (Transmountain Road) in El Paso.
This is the first dragnet arrest system, or “mechanical” runaway ramp, to be deployed in El Paso.
Officials say that the safety feature will provide a stopping option for commercial vehicles experiencing brake loss near I-10.
Due to the narrow footprint available at that location, TXDOT opted to place the runaway ramp in the median, meaning that trucks will need to use the left lane of Loop 375 westbound to access it.
