Michigan trooper finds gas leaking from fuel hauler’s tank during roadside CVSA inspection

A Michigan State Police (MSP) trooper caught a potentially dangerous fuel leak during a roadside inspection.

Lt. Hamilton with MSP’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) recently stopped a fuel hauler on US-23 in Presque Isle County, Michigan, for an equipment violation.

Lt. Hamilton performed a Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) Hazardous Materials inspection and discovered that the truck’s cargo tank was leaking gasoline from the piping under the vehicle.

“Thanks to his attention to detail, a potentially dangerous situation was identified before it could lead to harm,” MSP said. “CVED officers not only ensure commercial vehicle compliance but also protect critical infrastructure and Michigan’s natural resources every day. This is a great example of the important work our CVED members do to keep our roadways and communities safe.”
