Michigan troopers seize marijuana and $346K in cash from semi truck that bypassed I-75 weigh station

A truck driver was taken to jail after troopers located marijuana and a large quantity of cash during a traffic stop that was initiated after he bypassed a weigh station.

At 7:15 p.m. on July 21, 2026, a a Michigan State Police (MSP) Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) officer stopped a 2023 Freightliner after observing the vehicle bypassing the I-75 weigh station in Erie Township, according to a release from MSP’s First District.

When interacting with the truck driver, a 25-year-old from North Hollywood, California, the officer noted indicators of criminal activity.

The truck driver agreed to allow a search of the vehicle.

While searching the truck, the MSP officer located “a large amount of vacuum-sealed U.S. currency concealed in the truck’s sleeper berth. Based on the circumstances, the officer suspected the cash was connected to drug trafficking.”

The truck was escorted back to the weigh station for an inspection, where the case was handled over to the Monroe Area Narcotics Team and Investigative Services (M.A.N.T.I.S.) due to indications of possible drug trafficking.

After searching the truck and trailer, officers seized 97 kilograms of processed marijuana and $346,000 in U.S. currency, both of which were vacuum-sealed.

The driver of the truck was taken into custody and lodged in the Monroe County Jail pending possible charges.

The truck was en route from California to New Jersey when it was stopped, MSP said. The truck is owned by a company based in Bartlett, Tennessee.

The investigation is ongoing.
