The Missouri Department of Transportation is making plans to expand truck parking along Interstate 70 by the end of 2028 with the help of a $30 million grant.
MoDOT says the current truck parking expansion plan includes expanding pre-existing truck parking in Odessa, Concordia, Boonville, Mineola and Wright City using $30 million in federal grants awarded to the state.
According to Fox 2 Now, the most recent of two public information meetings on the project was held on Wednesday, January 28th.
“Before we begin work, we want to come to the public and say, we have funding; this project’s going to happen; what input do you have before we begin so we can try to incorporate that to the best of our ability,” said Eric Kopinsky, Improve I-70 statewide program director for MoDOT. “This will be a design-build project where we list our goals and really lean on private industry to bring maximum innovation.”
Currently, all of Missouri’s rest stops are at capacity for truck parking during peak hours, and 75% of its truck stops are experiencing the same volume. Further details regarding the project have not yet been released, except for an expected completion date in the end of 2028.
