More than 13,500 trucks and drivers out-of-service during 72-hour CVSA Roadcheck blitz

Thousands of commercial trucks and drivers were removed from North American roadways during this year’s International Roadcheck inspection campaign.

On August 25, the CVSA released results from the Roadcheck commercial vehicle inspection effort that took place throughout the U.S., Mexico, and Canada May 12 to 14, 2026.

During the 72-hour effort, a total of 54,575 inspections were conducted.

A total of 13,534 out-of-service orders were issued during Roadcheck, including 10,350 out-of-service orders for commercial motor vehicles and 3,184 out-of-service orders for commercial vehicle drivers.

The two areas of focus for Roadcheck 2026 were cargo securement and Electronic Logging Device (ELD) tampering. Roadcheck inspectors located 1,724 cargo securement out-of-service violations. Inspectors also issued 146 out-of-service orders for ELD tampering during this year’s Roadcheck campaign.

CVSA noted that “most of the vehicles (81%) and drivers (94.2%) inspected did not have any out-of-service (OOS) violations.” A total of 17,680 CVSA decals were issued during Roadcheck, indicating that there were no critical safety or equipment violations.

Roadcheck Vehicle Violations

The top vehicle out-of-service violation in North America was for Brake Systems, with 3,379 violations uncovered.

Other top vehicle violations include Tires (2,914 violations), 20% Defective Brakes (2,072 violations), Cargo Securement (1,724 violations), and Lights (1,659 violations).

Roadcheck Driver Violations

The top driver out-of-service violation in North America was for No Medical Card, with 1,072 violations uncovered.

Other top driver violations include Hours of Service (929 violations), No Commercial Driver’s License (620 violations), English Proficiency (361 violations), and False Records of Duty Status (266 violations).

Hazmat Inspections

During Roadcheck 2026, 2,590 inspections of vehicles transporting hazardous materials/dangerous (HM/DG) goods were conducted, leading to the discovery of 368 vehicle out-of-service violations and 63 out-of-service driver violations.

Inspectors located 141 HM/DG out-of-service violations. The top HM/DG violation found during Roadcheck was Placarding (40 violations).
