This week, the New Hampshire State Police (NHSP) conducted a commercial vehicle operation with a focus on reducing crashes caused by faulty braking systems.

Dozens Of Commercial Vehicles Sidelined During One-Day Brake Safety Effort

On April 14, 2026, NHSP’s Troop G took part in a Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance “Operation Airbrake” inspection and enforcement effort, “primarily at the weigh station facilities on I-93 in Windham and along Route 101 in Epping.”

NHSP issued 49 out-of-service orders for vehicles and drivers as part of the operation.

Troopers say that the purpose of the Operation Airbrake blitz was to “reduce the number of highway crashes caused by faulty braking systems on commercial motor vehicles by conducting roadside inspections and educating drivers, mechanics, owner-operators and others on the importance of proper brake inspection, maintenance and operation.”

What Is Operation Airbrake?

Operation Airbrake is a CVSA campaign that seeks to improve highway safety throughout North America by improving commercial vehicle brake safety. Operation Airbrake was initiated in Canada in 1988.

Each year, the CVSA holds an unannounced Brake Safety Day as part of Operation Airbrake. Brake Safety Day is one-day nationwide brake safety enforcement initiative, which may be held at any time during 2026.

The CVSA will also spearhead the Brake Safety Week campaign throughout North America on August 23 — 29, 2026.
