New Jersey man charged after payments stopped on leased commercial vehicles, police say

Pennsylvania police charged a New Jersey man after he allegedly stopped making payments on leased dump trucks.

The owner of a business that leases commercial and non-commercial vehicles contacted Lower Burrell Police (LBP) to report Jeffrey Nichols, 46.

According to an August 3 statement from the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office (WCDAO), the business said that Nichols had leased multiple vehicles from them in 2021 but stopped making payments in July 2025.

The company told police that it recovered 2 of the 5 vehicles using a vehicle recovery service, but that Nichols was still in possession of two tri-axle dump trucks and a Chevrolet pickup truck. 

The company also said that it had unsuccessfully tried to reach Nichols by phone, text, and email.

Police responded to a listed address for Nichols but no one was home, and there was an eviction notice on the door.

The Chevrolet pickup was recovered from a parking garage by the Reading City Police Department in mid-July after it was reported stolen.

Nichols faces two charges of theft of leased property and receiving stolen property, according to WCDAO.
