New Jersey man sentenced for stealing perfume, government laptops, and liquor from semi trailers at warehouses

A man was sentenced to prison for conspiring to burglarize trailers at logistics warehouses in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

On June 1, 2026, Derek Spivey, 38, was sentenced to 48 months in prison for conspiring to transport stolen goods, and an additional 8 months for violating his supervised release, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey.

Spivey previously pleaded guilty to the conspiracy charge as well as to violating the conditions of his supervised release from a prior conviction for possessing a firearm as a felon. 

Officials said that Spivey conspired with Jamil Bethea, Jamal Reid, Rasheed Sharpe, and others to break into trailers at warehouses in New Jersey and Pennsylvania in order to steal the contents.

As part of the cargo theft operation, Spivey and his co-conspirators stole:

The stolen items were transported into New Jersey to be sold.

Bethea, Reid, and Sharpe also pleaded guilty to charges in connection with the cargo theft conspiracy. Sharpe to 41 months in prison. Bethea and Reid are still awaiting sentencing.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
