New York State DOT says semi truck driver was following GPS in bridge strike caught on video

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) shared video of a semi truck striking a low bridge as a reminder to truckers pay attention to signs and not just their GPS devices.

NYSDOT says that the bridge strike occurred earlier this week at the Glenridge Road Bridge in Glenville, New York.

“…The driver said they were following their GPS. The issue? Most consumer GPS apps and mobile phone maps don’t know your vehicle’s height. They’ll give you the fastest route, not always the safest one for over-height vehicles. That’s why low bridges are clearly marked with signs, warnings, and flashing lights,” NYSDOT said. “Those warnings are there to protect you and the bridge. Ignoring them can lead to serious damage, major delays, and dangerous conditions for everyone on the road.”
