New York State Police (NYSP) called on commercial vehicle drivers to pay more attention after a dump truck with a raised bed rolled over after hitting overhead lines.
On August 7, 2026, NYSP’s Troop K Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit (CVEU) responded to an incident involving a dump truck in LaGrange, New York.
Troopers learned that a commercial vehicle had been driven from a yard with the dump body raised. The cab guard then struck overhead communication lines, “lifting the truck’s front axle off the ground and causing the vehicle to roll onto its passenger side,” NYSP said.

No injuries were reported.
Troopers noted that New York law requires commercial vehicles with tilting or lifting beds to have a warning light in the cab that activates whenever the bed is elevated.
“This incident is an important reminder for commercial vehicle operators to remain attentive and confirm that the dump body is completely lowered before putting the vehicle in motion,” NYSP said.
