North Carolina deputies arrest two for drug trafficking during big rig traffic stop for failure to maintain lane

A truck driver and passenger were arrested in Spring Hope, North Carolina, on drug trafficking charges.

On July 19, 2026, officers with the Nash County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) spotted a semi truck that was speeding and failing to maintain its lane as it traveled on on US 64 Eastbound near NC Hwy 231.

Police initiated a traffic stop and made contact with driver Charles Randolph, of Eastland, Texas, and passenger, Treyshawn Riley, of Phoenix, Arizona.

Due to “conflicting information provided by the occupants,” a canine unit was brought in to perform a free-air sniff around the semi truck. After the dog alerted to the vehicle, a probable-cause search was conducted.

NCSO said that officers discovered a “large quantity of illegal narcotics and a firearm inside the cab.” Police seized 39 kilograms of cocaine and 11 kilograms of fentanyl.

Both Randolph and Riley were taken into custody and then booked into the Nash County Detention Center on the following charges:

Randoph:

• 2 Counts – Trafficking in Opium or Heroin
• 2 Counts – Trafficking in Cocaine
• Felony Maintaining a Vehicle/Dwelling for Controlled Substances

Riley:

• 2 Counts – Trafficking in Opium or Heroin
• 2 Counts – Trafficking in Cocaine
• Felony Maintaining a Vehicle/Dwelling for Controlled Substances
• Possession of a Concealed Weapon
