ODOT recently took to Facebook to remind motorists of one of the most basic rules of the road – no stopping on the highway.
The Ohio Department of Transportation posted a traffic cam video to their Facebook page showing a four wheeler stopping in the right lane of travel next to an exit lane on Interstate 670 at Neil Avenue.
A second car then stops behind the first, and then a white van. The three cars come to a near halt in the lane of traffic. A tanker truck then comes up behind them and barely manages to swerve right into the exit lane, avoiding a serious chain reaction crash. The trucker even manages to get back into the regular lane of travel without causing incident and carries on his way.
“What if you didn’t do this…” the ODOT post reads. “We need you to quit randomly stopping in the travel lane on an interstate and causing a crash.”
“If you’re confused, new to driving, or just lost, do NOT stop in a travel lane. Instead, just safely exit while maintaining the flow of traffic or safely pull over,” the post continues.
“Sincerly, Ohio DOT.”
