Ohio troopers share video of bobtail truck veering wildly and sliding off icy I-70

The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) shared dash cam video of a semi truck and an SUV losing control on the same icy portion of I-70 as a reminder that “bridges freeze before the roads.”

The video was captured earlier this week on I‑70 in Belmont County, Ohio, and shared by OSHP on January 23, 2026.

According to OSHP, a trooper with the St. Clairsville Post captured two separate crashes involving a bobtail truck and an SUV while responding to a previous incident.

The semi truck driver was not injured. The four SUV occupants suffered minor injuries.

“We want to remind drivers that icy conditions may exist even when roadways appear clear. Bridges, overpasses and elevated surfaces are especially susceptible to freezing due to exposure to cold air above and below. We encourage everyone to reduce their speed, increase following distance and remain alert to changing road conditions as winter weather moves across Ohio,” OSHP said.
