Owner-operator sidelined in Arizona for no USDOT number, CDL, insurance, or corrective lenses
A commercial vehicle owner-operator was cited and ordered off the road for multiple registration and licensing violations, Arizona officials say.
An Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) trooper with the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit stopped a commercial truck on AZ-202 near Scottsdale Road in the Tempe area, according to an August 25 social media post.
During the traffic stop, the trooper uncovered several violations on the vehicle, including:
- No company name
- No USDOT number
- A front Texas license plate that did not belong to the vehicle
- A rear Arizona plate that had expired in January
Additionally, the trooper discovered violations for the driver/company owner, including:
- No valid medical examination
- No commercial driver’s license (CDL)
- No insurance
- Failing to wear required corrective lenses
AZDPS said that the driver had previously been cited for no CDL and no valid medical examination.
The driver was issued “several citations” and placed out-of-service.
“This wasn’t a “ghost truck” – it was an unmarked, improperly registered, and uninsured commercial vehicle operating far outside the law. When CMVs try to blend in without proper identifiers, it creates serious safety risks for everyone on the road. Troopers depend on visible, accurate information to protect Arizona’s roads. When a vehicle hides that information, intentionally or otherwise, it puts lives at risk,” AZDPS said.
