Pennsylvania Turnpike announces toll increase going into effect in 2027
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) recently announced a toll increase going into effect in early 2027.
Starting on January 3, 2027, tolls on the Pennsylvania Turnpike will increase by 3.5%.
The PTC said that the 2027 increase “is the lowest rate increase since 2014, [and it] falls below the current national inflation rate level.”
PTC voted to approve the toll increase at a July 7 meeting.
Officials explained that the annual toll increases on the Pennsylvania Turnpike are a direct result of Act 44 of 2007, which obligated the PTC to assist in funding statewide ground transportation beyond PA Turnpike operations in lieu of raising taxes for transportation.
“Despite inflation, recessions and a pandemic, the PA Turnpike has not deviated from its repayment plan over the course of nearly 20 years, which was achieved through controlled spending, efficient debt management and innovation,” Turnpike officials noted.
