PETA is accusing a trucking company of skirting laws and contributing to the death of a lab monkey during its transport of the animals.
PETA cites two incidents involving JKL transporting monkeys to two separate locations in February of 2023 and on January 8, 2026.
According to PETA, in the most recent incident, JKL Secure Freight allegedly ignored laws requiring the monkeys to be medically inspected by a vet at most 30 days prior to transport. The monkeys were last examined on December 12th, but did not arrive in Reno, Nevada until January 8th.
In the 2023 incident, one monkey was found dead once the truck reached it’s Florida destination, despite paperwork filed at the beginning of the trip listing all monkeys as “active and alert.” The U.S. Department of Agriculture investigated the death of the monkey, but has since closed the case without citing any of the parties involved.
PETA is urging the USDA Office of Inspector General to investigate the incidents further.
