Pickup truck driver cited for trailer ‘riding on its rims’ on Arizona highway

A pickup truck driver hauling a trailer was stopped on an Arizona highway with severe tire trouble.

Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) Highway Patrol State Troopers stopped a vehicle towing a trailer on AZ-87 in the Payson area, officials said on June 19.

“The trailer was riding on its rims, which the driver was unaware of. The driver explained that they had experienced tire issues a few miles back and were attempting to reach Payson to get a replacement,” said AZDPS.

The driver was issued a citation for operating an unsafe vehicle.

“This incident serves as an important reminder to always keep checking your load when traveling, as even a single spark can cause a wildfire. Fortunately, despite the incident occurring during stage one fire restrictions, no fires were reported as a result,” AZDPD advised.
