Police recover $5 million in property as part of cargo theft investigation involving stolen container chassis

This week, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and other agencies arrested five people after executing three search warrants as part of a cargo theft investigation.

On February 18, 2026, LAPD’s Commercial Crimes Division Cargo Theft Task Force led a multi-agency effort to execute search warrants in Corona, Compton, and Wilmington, California as part of an investigation into a cargo theft operation.

The following five individuals were arrested on Grand Theft charges, according to LAPD:

• Jose Del Toro Sr., 43, of Corona, California
• Maria Ramos, 42, of Corona, California
• Malissa Del Toro, 25, of Corona, California
• Jose Del Toro Jr., 23, of Corona, California
• Yairet Jimenez, 23, of Corona, California

While executing the warrants, officers impounded “84 stolen container chassis, 11 tractors, 25 vehicles, 6 all-terrain vehicles, and 2 heavy-duty forklifts believed to be associated with fraudulent vehicle identification numbers.”

Police also seized three handguns, multiple digital devices, and U.S. currency totaling $301,604 as part of the cargo theft investigation.

“Through this collaborative enforcement effort, the total estimated value of recovered property exceeds $5 million. This investigation is ongoing and further arrests are expected. This case underscores the importance of interagency collaboration in combating large-scale cargo theft and preserving the integrity of commercial supply chains. The investigation is ongoing, and further arrests are expected,” LAPD said.

Other participating law enforcement agencies include the Los Angeles Port Police, California Department of Justice Tax Recovery in the Underground Economy Program (TRUE), and the California Department of Motor Vehicles Investigations Division.
