Raised dump bed takes out highway sign, shutting down I-64 overnight

Interstate 64 was shut down in Illinois overnight after a truck with a raised dump bed took down a highway sign that was left blocking the roadway.

The incident happened onWednesday night, April 9th, at about 11:45 p.m. on westbound Interstate 64 approaching the Interstate 255 exit near Caseyville, Illinois

According to KSDK5, a tractor trailer was leaving a construction site with a raised dump bed when it struck an overhead highway sign. The impact damaged a support on the sign and caused it to fall onto the roadway, where it blocked four lanes of traffic.

No one was injured in the accident, but the downed sign forced the Illinois Department of Transportation to close the interstate until about 1 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.

No further information on the incident has been released.
