Semi truck brake failure leaves cab hanging off I-71 ramp

Two people were rescued from a semi truck that was left hanging off of an overpass after experiencing brake failure on Sunday evening. 

The incident happened at about 5 p.m. on August 30th on Martin Luther King Drive in Cincinnati, Ohio. 

According to The Cincinnati Enquirer, the semi truck was traveling on the ramp from MLK Drive to Interstate 71 south when it began experiencing brake trouble. 

“When he got to the top of the ramp, his brakes failed completely and he went straight through and caused the crash,” said Cincinnati Fire Department Assistant Chief Matt Flagler.

Both the truck driver and a passenger had to be rescued using harnesses and were taken to a hospital for treatment of non life threatening injuries. Approximately 200 gallons of fuel spilled from the truck’s fuel tank and onto the roadway below. 

The Ohio Department of Transportation has since inspected the bridge and has reopened all roadways as of Monday morning, August 31st.
