Semi truck cited as cause of multi-vehicle pile up crash that injured 10

A semi truck was determined to have caused the pile up crash involving nine vehicles that left 10 people injured in Connecticut yesterday. 

The accident happened on the morning of August 31st on Interstate 291 westbound near Exit 2 in South Windsor, Connecticut. 

According to NBC Connecticut, Connecticut State Police determined that a semi truck was approaching slowed traffic and failed to stop in time, leading to the collision. The 46-year-old truck driver has not been named. He was not injured in the crash. 

The crash occurred near a construction zone on the Bissell Bridge, where the South Windsor Fire Department has responded to five other crashes over the summer. 

One 63-year-old man reportedly sustained serious injuries in the crash. The other five injured parties were listed as having minor or only suspected injuries. The crash was deemed a “mass casualty” crash by the responding fire department.
