Troopers used the incident to ask drivers to “to move over for emergency vehicles and get plenty of sleep before driving.”
From ISP:
“Indiana’s “Move Over or Slow Down” law (IC 9-21-8-35) requires drivers approaching any stationary vehicle with flashing lights or hazard lights activated to safely change lanes away from the vehicle. If changing lanes is impossible or unsafe, drivers must reduce their speed to at least 10 mph below the posted speed limit.
Operating a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) while ill or fatigued is strictly prohibited. Federal regulations mandate that drivers must stop driving immediately if their alertness or ability is impaired, and employers cannot require them to drive in this condition.“
