Semi truck traffic stop for 20 MPH over ends in driver’s arrest in quadruple homicide-vehicular manslaughter case, Utah cops say

The Moab City Police Department (MCPD) arrested a speeding truck driver who was wanted out of California in connection with the deaths of four people.

At 2 p.m. on September 1, 2026, an MCPD officer stopped a semi truck after observing it traveling at 50 m.p.h. in a 30 m.p.h. construction zone near 500 W. Highway 191 in Moab City, Utah.

“The driver was identified as Chamkaur Singh, 30, via use of a California Commercial Driver’s License (CDL),” police said.

The MCPD officer conducted a records check and located a nationwide fugitive warrant matching the name and date of birth of the driver.

The warrant was issued by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) on April 4, 2026, for Homicide-Vehicular Manslaughter with no bail and nationwide extradition.

Backup arrived on scene to assist.

MCPD was able to coordinate with CHP to obtain a photograph of the suspect as there was no photo available with the warrant.

“The photograph matched the driver and the CHP investigator confirmed that this was the suspect they had been actively pursuing for two months,” MCPD said. “Our officers learned that there were actually four people killed in the incident that resulted in Singh being a fugitive, which also involved a firearm, though specifics are unknown.”

Singh was arrested without incident and booked into Grand County Jail on the warrant.

Singh was also issued a citation for speeding.

“This is a great reminder of how dangerous and unpredictable traffic stops can be, and a testament to professionalism and diligence shown by our officers, day in and day out,” police said.
