Several citations issued after trooper pulls over ‘overloaded and unsecured’ commercial vehicle in Phoenix

Arizona commercial vehicle troopers found multiple violations during a recent traffic stop that was initiated because the truck was “overloaded with passengers.”

A traffic stop was initiated in the Phoenix area after a commercial vehicle traveling on SR-202 passed an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper with the Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Unit.

The trooper noticed that the cab “was overloaded with four occupants.”

A traffic stop was initiated.

The trooper spotted that three of the four vehicle occupants were not wearing seatbelts.

Additionally, the commercial vehicle driver did not have a valid medical certificate.

The trooper also located “a missing required trailer cotter pin, which secures the trailer to the truck and prevents it from becoming unsecured on the roadway.”

Additionally, “the emergency breakaway cable was improperly connected to the trailer chain rather than directly to the truck.”

The CMV driver was issued several citations and placed out of service.

“Failing to secure your load and neglecting basic safety requirements endangers everyone on the road,” said the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS).
