Indiana troopers are asking drivers to use extra caution around emergency vehicles after a cruiser was struck and seriously damaged by a passing semi truck on Monday.
The crash occurred on January 19, 2026, on I-69 in Grant County, according to the Indiana State Police (ISP) — Peru District.
ISP Master Trooper AJ Coffee was standing outside of his cruiser responding to a previous crash when the marked vehicle was struck by a semi truck.
The emergency lights were activated at the time of the crash, ISP said.
No injuries were reported.
ISP asked drivers to help prevent similar crashes by taking extra precaution for first responders:
“Incidents like this are preventable and put troopers, first responders, and motorists at serious risk. Please slow down, move over when possible, and stay alert when approaching emergency scenes. Slow down. Drive cautiously. Stop crashing into our troopers.“
