Tennessee troopers use semi truck to teach teens how to share the road with CMVs

THP

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) recently highlighted the use of the agency’s “Teens & Trucks Semi” for outreach and educational events.

For several years now, THP has used the Teens & Trucks semi truck as a fun and educational tool to teach younger drivers how to share the road safely with large commercial vehicles.

Many of the outreach events take place at high schools, giving students a chance to get out of the classroom for the hands-on learning experience.

The semi’s trailer is equipped with driving simulators that offer teens a realistic driving experience through multiple video monitors, a steering wheel, pedals, and an adjustable seat.

Young drivers get hands-on experience on how to safely navigate around commercial vehicles and learn how quickly distracted driving can cause a crash.

The program teaches teens about distracted driving, stopping safely, reaction times, tractor trailers making wide right turns, the no zone areas of a tractor trailer, the effects of cutting off a tractor trailer, and the Move Over law, officials say.
