Texas trooper ‘nearly buried’ by caliche while inspecting dump truck

A Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS) trooper had a close call while inspecting a loaded dump truck.

Officials said that a TXDPS trooper with the South Texas Region was inspecting a dump truck loaded with caliche, a hard soil or sediment product.

As the trooper finished the inspection and crawled out from underneath the dump truck, “the rear latch unexpectedly opened, causing caliche to spill out and nearly bury him.”

The trooper was not injured.

The inspection revealed a weight violation, according to TXDPS.

“Every inspection helps prevent serious incidents. Thankfully, our trooper is safe, and the operation continues,” the agency said.
