Texas troopers take 74% of stopped trucks out-of-service in operation targeting ‘overweight and unsafe commercial vehicles’

Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS) sidelined a majority of the commercial vehicles encountered during a two-day enforcement operation in Trinity County.

The TXDPS commercial vehicle enforcement detail took place from 4:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on January 6 and January 7, 2026, along US 287 and SH 94 in Groveton, Texas.

The detail targeted “overweight and unsafe commercial vehicles” following complaints from citizens in Trinity County, according to Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace.

See below for results from the two-day effort:

Truckers should expect to see increased TXDPS presence in Trinity County, police said.

“We want the public to know these actions were taken directly in response to citizen complaints, and we appreciate residents taking the time to report unsafe conditions. We understand the need for folks to make a living. However, the vehicles placed out of service were operating in a very unsafe manner and posed a danger to motorists, families, and first responders traveling these roadways,” said Sheriff Wallace.
