Texas trucker wins $2 million jackpot in Maryland scratchers game

A long-haul trucker won the top prize on a scratchers ticket purchased from a vending machine in Maryland, lottery officials said.

A Texas-based truck driver secured a $2 million lottery win on an $30 Ace of Spades scratchers ticket purchased at a grocery store in Hagerstown, according to a February 23, 2026 news release from the Maryland Lottery.

“I was grocery shopping and the lottery was definitely not on my list But then I saw the vending machine,” the truck driver told lottery officials. “I’ve had good luck with $10 scratch-offs, but because it was sort of a spontaneous thing (coming across a lottery machine), I decided to splurge.”

“I scratched the first number and it was a $400 match. I couldn’t believe it. I scratched the second number – $5,000. The third number – $400,” the driver said.

After scratching the ticket in his vehicle, the driver learned that every number on his ticket was a match, and when he scratched the multiplier he found “200X,” meaning that he would take home the game’s highest possible prize of $2 million.

“The happy trucker says he will share his winnings with his family. And be assured, when next in Hagerstown, he is sure to be stopping by the Martin’s grocery store at 1729 Dual Highway. The business receives a $2,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the top-prize-winning ticket,” the Maryland Lottery said.
