Tier 3 restrictions still in place for commercial vehicles along Pennsylvania interstates

Published:

Tier 3 restrictions are in place for all vehicles on many interstates across the state of Pennsylvania as of Monday morning.

The winter storm over the weekend has caused treacherous travel conditions on many Pennsylvania Interstates. The state has since lifted Tier 4 restrictions, but Tier 3 restrictions remain in place, reported PennDOT.

Under Tier 3 restrictions, all empty tractor trailers, buses, RVs, motorcycles, and passenger vehicles toeing trailers are banned from the following roadways:

  • Interstate 78 in Berks, Lehigh and Northampton counties.
  • Interstate 80 in Carbon and Monroe counties.
  • Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County.
  • Interstate 176 in Berks County.
  • Interstate 380 in Monroe County.
  • U.S. 22 in Lehigh and Northampton counties.
  • Route 33 in Monroe and Northampton counties.

All loaded, single trailer commercial vehicles are required to use chains or approved alternate traction devices, and travel in the right lane only. Speed limits along these roadways are reduced to a maximum of 45 mph during the restrictions.

These restrictions were in place without an estimated time of removal as of Monday morning, January 26th.
