Traffic stop for inoperative taillights leads Tennessee trooper to ‘multiple serious safety violations’

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) asked for increased attention to safe equipment and driver compliance after discovering multiple major violations during a commercial vehicle traffic stop.

On May 12, THP said that a Motor Carrier Plus East Region trooper recently pulled over a commercial vehicle after observing inoperative taillights.

During the inspection that followed, the trooper uncovered “multiple serious safety violations,” including:

THP used the incident as a reminder to check equipment and obey commercial vehicle driver compliance regulations.

“These violations create significant safety risks for everyone on the roadway. Proper vehicle maintenance and driver compliance are critical to keeping our highways safe. Safety is not optional — it is the responsibility of every driver and carrier,” Tennessee troopers said.
