Trial set for driver who allegedly crashed truck after killing woman because “she would not ‘shut up’”
A trial has been set for a truck driver accused of staging a crash after killing a woman in Ohio earlier this summer.
38-year-old truck driver LaDavid Jaron Shaw is facing one count each of murder, tampering with evidence, and resisting arrest. He is scheduled for trial on October 27th in Preble County, Ohio after his defense withdrew his plea of not guilty by reason of insanity.
According to Dayton Daily News, Police were initially called to the scene of a tractor trailer wreck on the U.S. 40 entrance ramp to Interstate 70 West. The driver in the crash, Shaw, was discovered at the nearby truck stop and stated that he had killed a woman in his truck and had intentionally crashed the truck to make it look like she had died in the crash.
36-year-old Shanae Robinson was found in the semi truck and pronounced dead at the hospital.
Shaw was treated in an ambulance at the scene, where he admitted that he had strangled Robinson with his hands and put his boot on her neck because “she would not ‘shut up.’”
When officers attempted to arrest Shaw, he reportedly fought back.
“Shaw had to be Tased multiple times, was bit by a Preble County Sheriff’s Office K-9 and fought with multiple law enforcement officers before being placed in handcuffs,” according to court records. Shaw then reportedly damaged the first cruiser he was held in by kicking, and had to be transferred to another cruiser, where he continued to kick the center divider.
Shaw’s defense initially pleaded not guilty by way of insanity, but a forensic evaluation determined that Shaw was competent. The not guilty plea was later withdrawn. His next hearing is September 23rd, and the trial is October 27th.
