Troopers investigating semi truck crash into stopped traffic that killed father & son on I-75

Ohio State Troopers are investigating a semi truck crash into stopped traffic that claimed the lives of a father and young son on Interstate 75 over the weekend. 

The accident happened at about 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, February 28th on northbound I-75 north of Cridersville, Ohio. 

According to HometownStationsNews, 53-year-old truck driver Yvio Michel failed to slow for backed up traffic on I-75 and crashed into a line of cars, including four passenger vehicles and another tractor trailer. 

The following people and vehicles were struck in the accident: 38-year-old Kay Route in a 2009 Chevy Traverse, 58-year-old Ronald Foley in a 2022 Ford F-150, 45-year-old Amanda Gipson, 52-year-old Hershel Gipson, and their 11-year-old son in a 2015 Buick Enclave, 66-year-old Cynthia Harter in a 2014 Mazda CX-9, and 46-year-old truck driver Jason Ford. 

Michel and Foley were taken to hospitals for non life threatening injuries, while Route and Amanda Gipson were transported to a hospital with serious injuries. Hershel Gipson and the 11-year-old boy were pronounced dead at the scene. Ford was not hurt in the crash. 

The roadway was closed for approximately five hours. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is still investigating. It is unclear what charges, if any, will be filed in the incident. Users on Twitter have been speculating about the immigration status and English proficiency of the driver.
