Troopers ticketed 114 commercial vehicle drivers for using restricted New York State Parkway
New York State Police (NYSP) issued more than 100 citations during a commercial vehicle enforcement operation on one of the state’s Parkways.
On July 27 and July 28, 2026, troopers conducted an operation targeting commercial vehicle traffic on the Taconic State Parkway, a 105-mile scenic roadway passing through Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess and Columbia Counties.
As part of the two-day detail, troopers issued 158 citations, including:
- 114 citations for violations of Parkway Rules and Regulations prohibiting commercial vehicles from operating on the Parkway system
- 11 citations for violations of Parkway Rules and Regulations, prohibiting vehicles with painted or displayed signs, names, or insignia from operating on the Parkway system
- 33 citations for other New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law violations
NYSP reminds truck drivers that commercial vehicles are prohibited from using New York State’s Parkway system.
“When New York State’s picturesque state Parkway system was built early in the Twentieth Century, it was designed for automobiles. Low stone bridges on the Parkway system have posted vertical clearances as low as 6 feet, 11 inches. Commercial vehicles often hit and get stuck under these low bridges, causing serious accidents and long delays while they are being removed,” said the New York State Department of Transportation.
