The California Highway Patrol (CHP) arrested a semi truck driver who crashed after traveling the wrong way on an interstate in Siskiyou County.
The incident occurred on the night of August 22, 2026, according to CHP’s Yreka Division.
Troopers said that “several motorists encountered a terrifying situation when a big rig was traveling the wrong way – barreling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-5.”

The truck came to a stop after crashing near the Weed Rest Area.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
No injuries were reported.
The driver of the truck was arrested on suspicion of DUI, according to state police.

“Great work by everyone who remained vigilant behind the wheel, took evasive action, and avoided what could have been a devastating crash. We also thank everyone who immediately called 911, allowing emergency personnel to respond swiftly and get this dangerous situation under control,” CHP said.
