Truck driver assaulted truck stop worker who asked him to move, then led police on pursuit that ended in standoff, Texas cops say

A disturbance at a Pilot truck stop in Texas led to a police pursuit and a standoff this week, according to local police.

At 11 p.m. on August 26, the Mustang Ridge Police Department (MRPD) responded to a Pilot truck stop located at 10700 US 183 South NB for a reported disturbance.

“Through the initial call for service, it was determined that a truck driver assaulted a member of the Pilot staff when they asked him to move from the middle of the driveway. The truck driver was armed with a club during the commission of the assault and threatened to kill the employee,” police said.

The worker was able to escape and called 911, providing police with a description of the suspect’s commercial vehicle.

The truck driver left the Pilot truck stop and traveled north on US 183.

An MRPD officer spotted the suspect vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the truck driver refused to pull over.

A police pursuit took place on northbound SH 130, with units from the Travis County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety assisting.

A tire deflation device was deployed. The front passenger side tire of the tractor was deflated, but the truck continued for a short distance before stopping on SH 130 in the Pflugerville area.

Accordion to MRPD, the truck driver refused to exit the vehicle, so the driver’s side window was broken and pepper balls were introduced into the cab.

The truck driver exited on the passenger side after several minutes.

Police ordered the truck driver to get on the ground, but he refused. Police deployed a Taser and the driver was placed under arrest.

Because the truck driver “appeared to be intoxicated on unknown narcotics,” he was transported to a hospital. Hospital staff said that the driver required medical attention, so he was admitted to the hospital for treatment.
