Truck driver calls 911 on own load after load shift reveals packages of marijuana

A truck driver called 911 after a load shift revealed packages of marijuana hidden inside of the cargo. 

The discovery was made on August 25th at a truck stop in Butts County, Georgia. 

According to Fox5Atlanta, the truck driver booked his load through a “legit freight broker out of Sacramento, California,” and picked it up at a “legit warehouse,” as described by Butts County Sheriff Gary Long. 

The truck driver was on his way to deliver the cargo in Orlando when he decided to take a break at an Atlanta truck stop. His load shifted as he turned into the truck stop, so he opened the trailer to check on the cargo. Once the trailer was opened, the driver noticed bundles of marijuana had fallen out of the loaded boxes, so he contacted 911. 

Police arrived and discovered 1,800 pounds of marijuana concealed inside of the cargo. 

“This wasn’t good police work, this was a good truck driver,” Long said. 

“Sad day for the truck driver. He’s out about $10,000 for doing the right thing… We are gonna give him some reward money,” Long continued. 

Long says the seizure has aided law enforcement in their overall investigation into the cartel.
