Truck driver charged with DUI and more after taking out 200 feet of guardrail, New Hampshire troopers say

The New Hampshire State Police (NHSP) arrested a truck driver following a crash that “caused significant damage to a guardrail” on I-89 in Bow over the weekend.

Around 2:30 a.m. on May 3, 2026, NHSP responded to a reported crash on southbound I-89 at mile marker 0.6.

Following an investigation, troopers determined that a blue and white 1996 Ford LTL pulling a white 2001 utility box trailer struck and damaged approximately 200 feet of guardrail before coming to a stop.

No injuries were reported.

The truck driver was identified as Michael Tibbetts, 45, of Berwick, Maine.

Troopers said that Tibbetts was arrested after an on-scene investigation determined that he was impaired.

Tibbetts faces charges including possession of a controlled drug, transporting drugs in a motor vehicle, DUI, negligent driving, misuse of plates, unregistered vehicle, and lane control.

Tibbetts was released on personal recognizance. His next scheduled court appearance is May 29, 2026.

Several lanes of I-89 were closed for five hours on Sunday as crews worked to remove the crashed truck and trailer.
