Truck driver drove eight miles unaware of severe tire trouble, Iowa troopers say

Iowa troopers are asking truckers to check their equipment for safety after inspecting a semi truck that traveled miles with major tire troubles.

On Monday, March 16, 2026, the Iowa State Patrol Commercial Motor Vehicle Unit inspected a commercial truck with significant tire defects along I-80/35.

“This truck was inspected this morning on I-80/35. The driver drove for approximately eight miles unaware two tires were missing and the last set of duals on the trailer were [seized],” the Iowa State Patrol said.

“Roads are still slick as we recover from the blizzard yesterday. If you drive, please ensure your equipment is up to the task!” troopers said.
