Truck driver faces homicide charges from 26-vehicle pileup in Green River Tunnel

A semi truck driver has been charged in connection with a multiple fatality pileup that occurred in the Green River Tunnel in Wyoming last year.

Riaz Ahmad Noori, 24, has been charged with two counts of aggravated homicide and one of aggravated assault and battery, according to Cowboy State Daily.

On February 14, 2025, twenty-six vehicles, including ten passenger vehicles and sixteen commercial vehicles, were involved in a pileup crash in the westbound I-80 tunnel located near Green River, Wyoming, at mile marker 90.2.

Three people were killed in the fiery crash, and twenty others were injured. The tunnel was closed for months as crews completed extensive repairs.

According to a National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) post crash report, the crash began when a 2006 Toyota Tundra pickup truck was traveling west in the left lane of the tunnel amid slushy road conditions. As the Toyota exited the tunnel, it veered left, hit a metal guardrail, continued west, and stopped about 150 feet from the westbound tunnel exit, blocking the right lane and part of the left lane.

A westbound Peterbilt and a Jeep crashed and spun out attempting to avoid the Toyota.

A Volvo driver braked and jackknifed inside the tunnel trying to avoid the crashed vehicles.

A 2012 Dodge pickup with four occupants hit the jackknifed Volvo.

Noori was reportedly driving a Freightliner Cascadia in the right lane of the tunnel when he merged left, “struck the tunnel wall and also collided with and overrode the Dodge.”

“The entangled Freightliner and Dodge continued traveling west, re-impacted the Volvo’s truck-tractor, exited the tunnel, struck the Toyota, and came to rest after striking the rear of the Peterbilt. Following these collisions, several other vehicles collided inside the tunnel, and a post-crash fire ensued,” the NTSB said.

Two of the people killed in the crash, Christopher Johnson, 20, and Quentin Romero, 22, were inside the Dodge pickup hit by the Freightliner. The third person killed was Canadian truck driver Harmanjeet Singh, 30, who died in the post-crash fire.

Officials later said that the Dodge pickup passed the Freightliner on the left before entering the tunnel and that the Dodge pickup’s brake lights were visible, as was the jackknifed Volvo.
